Arid ecosystems are facing major challenges caused by climate change, environmental degradation and excessive exploitation of resources, which are affecting the biodiversity and sustainability of these systems. In spite of being fragile, these environments have economic and ecological potential that can be exploited through innovative and sustainable strategies.
The ICVCAE.2025 congress aims to discuss ways of preserving arid ecosystems and developing their resources through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing environmental sciences, sustainable agriculture and the green economy. It also seeks to strengthen scientific research and international cooperation, propose concrete solutions to mitigate the effects of environmental degradation, enhance the value of arid ecosystems, and promote sustainable development based on the responsible use of resources.
25th November’ 25
This axis focuses on the diversity, classification and ecological roles of plant species, particularly in arid and fragile ecosystems. It contributes to the conservation of indigenous flora and the rehabilitation of degraded habitats.
This axis studies the diversity and distribution of animal species, from invertebrates to vertebrates, in natural and human influenced habitats. It aims to understand species adaptation, population dynamics, and conservation priorities.
This axis explores the diversity, roles, and interactions of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, archaea, etc.) in various ecosystems, particularly arid and semi-arid environments. It focuses on microbial functions in nutrient cycling, soil fertility, and ecosystem resilience
This axis analyses the structure and sustainability of agricultural systems, focusing on soil-plant-animal interactions, water management and the integration of biodiversity. The aim is to improve agricultural productivity while preserving the ecological balance.

Ghardaïa Province is located approximately 600 kilometers south of Algiers. It is accessible via regular domestic flights from the capital and other major cities. Long-distance buses and shared taxis (communal transport) are also available, providing overland travel options to the region.
The province is known for its historic fortified towns, or ksars, which form part of the M’zab Valley—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These include Ghardaïa, Beni Isguen, El Atteuf, Bounoura, and Melika, as well as El Guerrara ,Berriane, and Metlili. Each ksar features a distinctive architectural style characterized by earthen construction, domed roofs, narrow alleys, and urban layouts adapted to the Saharan climate.
Among the region’s cultural highlights is the Mozabite carpet (z’rbya), woven by hand using traditional patterns and natural dyes. Local gastronomy includes a variety of traditional dishes based on local ingredients. In addition to the ksars, the province also includes other towns such as Zelfana and Sebseb, known for their tranquil atmosphere, oases, and palm groves. These areas contribute to the diversity of the region’s landscape and cultural heritage, offering insight into rural life in the Sahara. The surrounding environment combines well-preserved traditional architecture with striking natural features, creating a unique harmony between human settlement and the desert
